Iron-on patch

Alberta Arts District

$8.00

The Alberta Arts District is a commercial and arts district along NE Alberta Street in Northeast Portland, running about 1.5 miles from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to NE 33rd Avenue and linking the King, Vernon and Concordia neighborhoods. Art galleries, restaurants, clothing boutiques and gift shops line the street. It grew up around a streetcar line that began service in 1903, then declined after decades of displacement, disinvestment and alleged redlining. Its revival began in the early 1990s, led by community groups and by artist and activist Roslyn Hill, who worked to keep Black ownership on the street. On the last Thursday of each month the Last Thursday art walk, first held in 1997, fills the sidewalks with artists, street performers and food carts.
