Iron-on patch

Alabama Theatre

$8.00

The Alabama Theatre is a movie palace on Third Avenue North in downtown Birmingham, built in 1927 by Paramount's Publix Theatres chain as its flagship for the Southeast. It seated 2,500 when it opened on December 26, 1927, the largest house in the city's old theater district. Its original Mighty Wurlitzer organ, nicknamed Big Bertha, is one of only three of its model still installed where it was built. The nonprofit Birmingham Landmarks bought the theater in 1987 to save it, restored it in 1998, and now stages about 250 concerts, films and shows there each year. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and named Alabama's official historic theater in 1993.
